Poker Glossary and Terminology

Poker games are of the most renowned games in the world of casino. The Deal: The poker game begins when the cards have been distributed on the board to every player by the dealer. The deal is basically a pair of initial cards which are distributed among each player on the deck and are put into play.

The Flop: After the first two cards, the next three triplets that are also known as community cards are dealt with face up in the middle of the deck.

Community Cards: In order to understand the concept of the flop in a comprehensive way you must be aware of the community cards. These cards are likely found in community poker games in which the last card of the game is shared by every player. As explicit by the name these cards being exposed to the whole community of players available on the deck are given the name of community cards. As a community card is dealt face up in a poker game hence, it is also termed as a door card.

The Turn: The turn is the fourth dealt card which is also exposed in the middle of the deck as a door card.

The River: After dealing all the cards available on the deck, the river is the last card which has to be dealt with a face up in the center of the board. This is probably the last community card.

The Blinds: The blinds may seem to be a complicated term when reading about a poker game but the fact is that they symbolize the simple bets which are made during the game by the players. These bets ranges from small to big bets in which the bigger bets are twice the size of the small one’s. The reason of giving these bets the name of blinds is that a player is supposed to bet in the betting rounds without knowing about their cards.

The Call: The call is the simplest term of poker glossary. When the betting round is over the players are supposed to match any bet which has been already made by the opponent player. This matching of the bets is termed as the call.

To Fold: As it is quite explicit from its name, the fold means to discontinue playing a particular hand in the game or to quit the game as a whole. A player can fold his hand from playing any hand at a specific level.

To raise the bet: To raise the bet signifies to increase the bet which you have made in the betting round. A player can raise his bet in every next level of betting.

To check: Whereas this last basic term simply means not to bet during the poker game.
